Kent: Roosevelt class of '59 reunites

19 November 2007 Record Courier
The class of 1959 of Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent held a two-day 48-year reunion that began with a social gathering at the Brown Derby Roadhouse Restaurant in Streetsboro.

The following day, classmates met at the former Roosevelt High School building for a guided tour of the facility they once attended. Although rooms are no longer as they remembered them, much of the structural woodworking was preserved during renovation for use as the Davey Elementary School. The class of 1959 was one of the largest classes housed in the building and also the last to graduate from the building.

That evening, 95 class members and their spouses or guests began the evening with a dinner celebration held at the Rusty Nail Banquet Hall in Twin Lakes. Entertaining the group was Jan Snowberger, who led the singing of the school alma mater and other familiar selections. In attendance was special guest Richard Roberts, retired English and speech teacher.

Planning the reunion were Janice Rankin, Diane Thompson, Garry Hollow, Martha Michael and Mary Ann Lovell.

Out-of-state members in attendance were Frank Anderson of Chattanooga, Tenn., Rebecca Lamb of Longmont, Colo., Ann Cook of Orlando, Fla., Ron Bunker of Gainesville, Fla., Jerry Butler of Laguna Beach, Calif., Beatrice Reed of Jacksonville, Fla., Connie Clinkscales of Jamaica, N.Y., Darlene Jergovich of Clinton, Mo., Becky Lampe of Algonquin, Ill., Hannah Covington of Orlando, Fla., Bill Gosciewski of Cambridge Springs, Pa., Deanna Colfer of Reno, Nev., Barbara Richardson of Detroit, Mich., Ernest Howitt of Muskego, Wis., Jay Lyter of Dana Point, Calif., Louise Bellingslea of Orlando, Fla., Lee Boyett of Malvern, Pa., Janice Rankin of Stanley, N.C., Charles Spencer of South Mills, N.C., Barbara Early of Hollister, Calif., and Arlene Bobb of Pine, Ariz.

The class plans to hold a 50-year reunion in 2009.

The 24th

You continually change this blog and make it more interesting. This month Linda Johnson sent pictures of the 24th reunion. Linda also sent black and white pictures from the fifties that will be part of the 50th reunion. Dig out those pictures and send them to me.

Work continues on the DVD from the 48th. You have a month to be included. Contributors are: Ron Bunker, Yvonne Romeo, Jan Rankin, Barb Harris, and Linda Johnson.

THANK YOU!

Our blog is an experiment, a work in progress, and I have no idea where you are taking us but I can’t wait to find out! Your encouragement is much appreciated, as I had no idea of how many of you use it. THANK YOU!

But, everyone wants you to comment. Our blog is free and you get what you pay for. Becky Faltisco can testify to how hard it is to leave a comment. But I assure you your classmates are looking forward to your thoughts.

If I can your pictures (e-mail, snail, or pony express) I will post them weekly as long as they last. My goal was to stretch my very limited material out for two more years but thanks to Yvonne Romero, Ron Bunker, and Barb Harris I have enough material to post weekly. I still want your pictures particularly from the motel and Friday nite.

Send me your reunion pictures by 1 December as we are putting together a DVD of you weekend. You will be sent a flyer after the first of the year with the proceeds from the sale going to our 50th.

Deanna Hall was are serendipity star as her photos were an after thought on my part but she obviously stole the nite. Again, it’s your turn! Dig into those old photo albums and send me your 50’s me memories. You have two years.

Your request to place the dates of our deceased will be honored if we can get the dates. Thanks to Harry Taylor, Lee Ramsey, and Chuck Spencer we have Pat Park, Marilou Kazimer, Peg Wands, Wayne Thompson, and Tom Wise.

Once again, thank you for dropping by the blog and leaving your comments. Please send me your reunion photos so we all share the memories.
