Ron Isele

After graduating from RHS I entered KSU as an architecture major. I quickly found out that I was not cut out to be an architect. I decided to major in Speech Pathology and Audiology, which turned out to be a great field for me.

After receiving my Bachelor's and Master's degrees at KSU, I entered the Army. I had been in ROTC during my undergraduate years.
For two years I was stationed at Madigan Army Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. During that time I was Chief of Speech Pathology and Staff Audiologist in the department of Otology. This was during the Vietnam war and I worked a lot with injured soldiers, and also with families and retired military personnel.

In 1967 I left the military and took a position on the faculty at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. I just completed my 40th year at OU in the School of Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences. During that time I have taught both undergraduate and graduate courses, and I have served in the capacities of Director of the clinic and Undergraduate Coordinator. In 1995 I took the early retirement option which the university offers and am now an Associate Professor Emeritus. This allowed me to continue teaching one quarter a year until I am 70 and have the other nine months to do other stuff. I still enjoy my teaching and the students and also enjoy the other activities I am able to do. One thing that I have done over the past ten years is being a Docent at the Columbus Zoo. I spend about one day a week at the zoo telling people about the animals, doing tours of the zoo, and sometimes doing talks with animals in schools or businesses. I enjoy that.

My wife Ginnie and I are celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary this summer. My wife earned her Ph.D. in Educational Administration and she has been a principal and a superintendent of schools. We have two daughters. Kim is in the marketing field in Chicago and she has a 4 year old son Jason. Amy is a reading specialist in Cary, North Carolina and she has two daughters, Morgan who is 8 and Taylor who is 5. We lived in Athens for twenty years and have spent the last twenty years in Lancaster where we have the advantage of maintaining our long time relationships in Athens but also have the proximity of Columbus to take advantage of what the city has to offer.
